Action News has confirmed that Jerry Blavat, the renowned DJ known as "The Geator with the Heater" and "The Boss with the Hot Sauce," has passed away. He was 82.

He died of the effects of myasthenia gravis and other medical conditions at 3:45 a.m. on Friday at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital's hospice.

He leaves behind his lifelong girlfriend Keely Stahl, four daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Due to recent health problems brought on by a shoulder injury, Blavat was forced to postpone a performance at the Kimmel Cultural Campus.

Along with "The Monkees," "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Baby, It's You," and "Cookie," Blavat made appearances on a number of television shows and motion pictures.

He frequently participated in the Philadelphia Italian American Parade and spent many years as a special guest in the Thanksgiving Day Parade on 6ABC.

Blavat never intended to stop expressing his love for both Philadelphia and music.

Whatever happens, that beat will continue to throb through the veins of this city with the energy and vigour that only the "Boss with the Hot Sauce" could transmit.
